The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, is one of the premiere theaters in the country, and though I've never been there, based on this story alone, it's one of my favorites. We've all seen that "Silence is Golden" spots at our local AMC (how many times have you thought there's actually a crying baby at your showing?), but there's no sort of enforcement of the policy. It's nigh impossible to make it through a movie without hearing a some rogue clicks and being distracted by tiny windows of light. It's incredibly irritating.
Not so at the Alamo Drafthouse. They take this sort of stuff seriously. After receiving two warnings to stop texting, a woman was kicked out without a refund, and her angry rant now serves as the crux of an announcement that plays before R-rated movies at the Drafthouse. If only other theaters would follow suit. There's nothing more obnoxious than cinema texters and talkers.
they are my favorite theaters! if you ever visit, we will go! they always have some dramatic trailer--with a B actor or funny animations about being quiet, "texting also counts as talking". and then a creepy voice whispers, "shut the fuck up." (pardon my french.) true story.
