Normally, I don't post stories about release dates, casting announcements, etc., unless doing so en masse, but this is too exciting to ignore. Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, about a charismatic intellectual (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who recruits a rough-and-tumble vagabond (Joaquin Phoenix, in his first role since I'm Still Here) to help him establish a new religion, is now set to open September 14 in limited release before expanding the following weekend. The film was previously scheduled to open October 12. (Check out Jeff Sneider's proclamatory tweet here.)
The poster and trailers have me psyched for the film, and Anderson's last movie, There Will Be Blood, is one of my top ten movies ever, so expectations are high. So high, in fact, that I fully expect The Master could be the best movie of the year. Now, only a month and a half to wait until I see if I'm right.
September 14.
September 14.

I skipped your writing of the plot synopsis because I really don't want to know anything about this film. Glad to know it's coming out soon -- hopefully it's great.
ReplyDeleteThe blog looks good man. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Luckily, plot information is pretty vague, but if there's a movie to go into knowing nothing, this is certainly it.
DeleteJoaquin looks well-groomed. "I'm Still Here" was great but excited to see this!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to have him back in proper form, and in a very meaty, potentially Oscar-worthy role. I do not miss the beard.
DeleteI was so glad this got pumped out and is coming out sooner. I'm right there with you - this has potential to be one of the (if not THE) best film of the year. Hopefully my expectations won't be to high.
ReplyDeleteHey man, I just gave you the Liebster Blog Award. Jump over to my blog to check it out!
I'm glad, too. I was convinced we wouldn't see it until 2013.
DeleteAnd thanks for the recognition, man! I'll get to that in the coming days.
