Once in a while, a poster really takes my breath away. I remember walking down the hallway at a movie theater years ago, and stopping dead in my tracks upon seeing the One Day poster. It wasn't groundbreaking by any means, but it was rapturously romantic, an echo of iconic imagery and a promise of a sweeping love story. Too bad the movie ended up being so terrible.
I have much higher hopes for The Theory of Everything, directed by Man on Wire's James Marsh. The film stars Eddie Redmayne as a young Stephen Hawking and Felicity Jones as his fellow student and eventual wife Jane Wilde, and explores their romance and work in the face of the life-changing diagnosis Hawking received at the age of twenty-one. The film, based on Jane Hawking's memoir Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, will hopefully live up to the gorgeous promise of this poster, and provide proper breakthrough roles for the two leads, who have done stunning work over the last few years.
The Theory of Everything opens November 7.
