And Our Katniss Everdeen is...

...Winter's Bone star and Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence, if word around the net is to be believed.  Lawrence proved that she can play it tough in her breakout turn as Ree in Bone, and I don't doubt that she'll do a great job playing The Hunger Games protagonist Katniss.  Of course, any time a beloved series is brought to the big screen (especially one so personally beloved by yours truly), I can't help but be nervous that something, or everything, will be lost in translation, but hopefully the cast and crew will focus on making a vision that is faithful to the books and exciting in its own right, instead of making a lazy cash-in a la Twilight.  With the lead finally announced, we'll hopefully hear how the supporting characters are being filled soon.  I'm crossing my fingers that Robert Downey Jr. will play Haymitch.  And why not get Alex Pettyfer to play Finnick?

Anyways, to demonstrate her suitability for the role, a pic of J-Law in her Oscar best, nothing like what she'll be wearing in the film (although she'll be all dolled-up when she hits the Capitol).
