I'm not sure how this one has failed to be on my radar before, considering the phenomenal cast. Roman Polanski follows up his underseen thriller
The Ghost Writer with an adaptation of the acclaimed play
God of Carnage, retitled for the screen as simply
Carnage. The film chronicles a meeting between two couples after their sons get into a fight at a park, resulting in one of the boys getting his teeth knocked out. Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly play one couple, while Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz play the other. The film takes place within a single room, and while niceties are initially observed, the night gets crazier as it wears on and the booze starts flowing. While its descent into comedy might mark it an unlikely Oscar contender, there's no denying such an all-star cast, all of whom have Oscars save Reilly, who was nominated for
Chicago.
According to Foster, the movie may be ready to premiere at Venice in September before unrolling worldwide before the end of the year. Regardless of when it drops,
Carnage has launched to a lofty spot on my Mighty List of Anticipation.
