Life in a Day

Life in a Day is one of my favorite movies of the year, a worldwide collaboration via Youtube to create a movie documenting one day on our planet. The result is stunning, a poignant and often startling look at how we're all connected by ties that aren't as tenuous or abstract as we might assume.

Aside from the uplifting, exciting, and touching elements of the film's content, it's also an extraordinary feat of editing. Over 4,500 hours of footage were edited into a much more digestible 90 or so minutes, and while there's plenty of straightforward montage (oh look, people wake up... ALL OVER THE WORLD), there are also plenty of more artistic, challenging juxtapositions.

While the film is available on DVD (and is probably still playing in some theaters around the country), it is also fittingly available to watch in its entirety on Youtube, and thus, here on Such Moving Pictures. So I present a beautiful portrait of what it is to be human in our modern world, Life in a Day:
