New Images from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby

While Leonardo DiCaprio seems all but out of the Oscar race for his fantastic turn in Clint Eastwood's lukewarmly received J. Edgar, the talented young actor can rest in the assurance that he has two more potentially awardable performances on tap for Christmas 2012 (yes, both movies come out the same day). DiCaprio stars in Quentin Tarantino's star-studded "southern" Django Unchained - costarring Christoph Waltz, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Jamie Foxx, among many others - and as Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the timeless F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, which costars Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, and Joel Edgerton.

New pics of the latter have emerged, and even if the film fails to satisfyingly realize the source material (a likely outcome, as the novel is difficult to adapt: just look at the horrific Robert Redford version), it should be a feast for the eyes.  The set decoration, costumes, and hair/make-up should all be lovely in their sharp period-ness.

Take a look:
Such lovely shirts?
What a cast.
