From Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumgdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) and Oscar-nominated director Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat) comes a film that isn't likely to garner any Oscar attention, but looks a good deal better than I thought it might. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. A sheik enlists the help of his representative (Emily Blunt) to introduce salmon to the Yemen with help from a British fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor). Kristin Scott Thomas also co-stars as the Prime Minister's press secretary who takes an interest in the story as a positive spin on the situation in the Middle East. It may very well being sappy or falsely inspirational, but based on this trailer, I'm game for whatever manipulation it brings.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen comes to theaters March 2, 2012.
