It's no secret that I'm terribly excited about Marc Webb's forthcoming Spider-Man reboot. The director's debut, (500) Days of Summer, ranks amongst my favorite films of all time, so I'm excited to see how he handles such a change of pace. The darker tone is on full display in this trailer, as Peter Parker (The Social Network's Andrew Garfield) delves into his mysterious past, leading him to Oscorp and Dr. Curt Connors (Greenberg's Rhys Ifans), who turns into the Lizard. The trailer doesn't quite reveal the villain in all his scaly glory, but the glimpses are at least promising.
Emma Stone, so fresh and bankable after hits like Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Help also features prominently here. So much about this trailer seeks to differentiate this new origin tale from Sam Raimi's trilogy - it's dark! she's a blonde! - and it works rather well. The high-flying action scenes should dazzle in 3-D, and hopefully the more mature story-telling will mark as clean a break as Christopher Nolan's Batman films have made from their Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher predecessors.
We'll see how successful this rebirth is when The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters July 3.
This looks fab. It seems so much smarter than than the last spider-man series and so much more badass!
