Lola Versus Trailer

Greta Gerwig, aside from having perhaps the coolest name in Hollywood, has also developed into something of an indie hipster goddess in recent years.  Balancing solid indie fare like Baghead and Greenberg with more mainstream disappointments like No Strings Attached and ArthurLola Versus looks like it might be the film that helps Gerwig break out in true style.

The film comes from Fox Searchlight, and from the trailer, it's clear that the studio is hoping the film hits the same sweet spot that (500) Days of Summer did three years ago (it's even mentioned in the trailer).  Tonally, it seems a bit more comic than its Annie Hall-esque spiritual predecessor, but it also looks like a great vehicle for Gerwig, who also appears in Woody Allen's To Rome With Love and the charming-looking Damsels in Distress from Whit Stillman this year.  With any luck, she'll soon be as much of a household name as Zooey Deschanel.  Even if she doesn't, a lot of young, hip fellas will be in love with her soon enough...if they aren't already.

Lola Versus enjoys a (probably limited) release June 8.  With luck, it'll catch on and expand thereafter.
