Since I first saw (500) Days of Summer, I have felt mad man-love for Joseph Gordon-Levitt. One of JGL's breakthrough roles came in writer-director Rian Johnson's high school noir Brick, and now the two are reuniting for the time-traveling action thriller Looper. The film takes place in a future where the mob uses time travel technology to send their targets into the past to be taken care of by hired guns called loopers. JGL plays one such looper who is assigned to kill his future self, played by Bruce Willis. This poster does a nice job of laying out the basics of the plot and showcases some of the impressive make-up work that makes JGL look quite a bit like Willis.
While I wasn't a fan of Brick, I loved Johnson's last film, the crime caper The Brothers Bloom, and this seems like it could be the director's first semi-major hit, box-office wise. JGL has grown into a bonafide action star with Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, so he could serve as a draw for the younger crowd, while Willis seems to be at that stage of his career where his presence is enough to justify a ticket for others (at least that's what the marketing team for the new G.I. Joe movie is hoping).
Looper hits theaters September 28.
