Fernando Meirelles's masterful City of God stands as one of the finest movies ever made. Stylish, substantial, sprawling, but deeply felt and sharply observed, City of God dropped viewers into a colorful, dangerous world, letting them gain their bearings only to unfold another complicating chapter in an epic labyrinth of love, violence, betrayal, and ambition.
Meirelles is taking on another ambitious tale with interweaving stories, this time written by one of my favorites, Peter Morgan, who cast a similarly wide net for Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, as well as penning such wonderful scripts as Frost/Nixon and The Damned United. This time around, Morgan weaves together stories of sexual encounters, including a businessman considering hiring a prostitute and a recently released sex offender.
The impressive cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Ben Foster, Rachel Weisz, and Jude Law. With this cast and crew, 360 looks to impress.
360 comes to theaters August 3, but it's available on iTunes starting June 29.
