Darren Aronofsky has been one of my favorite directors since I first saw The Fountain nearly six years ago. With the exception of Pi (many others would disagree), every film on Aronofsky's resume has been stellar, often delving into the darkest elements of the human psyche: addiction, fear of death, aging, the futile pursuit of perfection. Next up, the director is bringing the Biblical story of Noah to the big screen, with Russell Crowe as the lead, and costarring Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Logan Lerman, and the recently-announced Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah.
I can't wait to see how Aronofsky brings the story to life, but sadly, it'll be a long wait. Noah doesn't open until March 28, 2014. For now, we have this first look at the massive ark set that Aronofsky tweeted:
Genesis 6:14 reads, "So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out."
And I saw the ark set, and it was good.
