Josh Radnor of How I Met Your Mother fame is back in writer-director mode with Liberal Arts, one of the movies out of Sundance that most grabbed my attention. Radnor stars as a thirty-something New Yorker who returns to his Ohio college (filmed at Radnor's alma mater, Kenyon College) to celebrate his old professor"s retirement. While there, he starts a romance with a spirited sophomore played by Elizabeth Olsen, whom anyone would fall in love with in similar circumstances. Richard Jenkins, Allison Janney, and absent-from-the-trailer Zac Efron also costar in the film, which received raves when it premiered.
Radnor's debut, happythankyoumoreplease, was a solid dramedy in the vein of Woody Allen, and from the looks of this trailer, he has further refined his craft nicely.
Liberal Arts releases October 5.
