Many well-received foreign films end up getting American remakes in order to find wider audiences, often to the dismay of fans of the original. These remakes often feel unnecessary, too commercial, or lazy. But from the looks of this trailer, Brian De Palma's remake of the French thriller Love Crime may be one of the rare exceptions that deserves to sit alongside the original (think Let the Right One In and Let Me In).
Love Crime will be hard to top, especially Kristin Scott Thomas's stellar turn, but Rachel McAdams may be up to the task. She takes on the role of a manipulative, seductive boss who preys on her young assistant (Noomi Rapace), who in turn seeks a brilliantly executed revenge.
Passion premieres at the Venice Film Festival in early September, and should get a theatrical release by the year's end. Perhaps McAdams and Rapace could find their way into the awards conversation?
Check out the trailer below, and catch the French original while we await a release date for Passion.
