The SIlver Linings Playbook Poster

David O. Russell's The Silver Linings Playbook recently won the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, an honor previously won by Slumdog Millionaire and The King's Speech.  The film has met with nearly universal acclaim, and as such, it's already considered one of the heavyweights going into the Oscar season.  Throw in Harvey Weinstein, and it looks like a winner.  (Check out the trailer, and my premature doubts about the film's Oscar prospects, here.)

The great cast is also getting plenty of buzz, including Bradley Cooper for Best Actor, Jennifer Lawrence in a role that some consider Actress and others Supporting Actress, and Robert De Niro for Best Supporting Actor (how nice for him to be doing a quality part again, after so much tripe in recent years).

The Silver Linings Playbook is about a former teacher (Cooper) who moves back in with his parents (De Niro and Jacki Weaver) after a stint in a mental hospital.  He tries to piece his life back together, a process that's complicated by a mysterious new woman (Lawrence) in his life.

The Silver Linings Playbook hits theaters November 21.  Should play well with families over the Thanksgiving holiday.
