The Hangover screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore make their directorial debut with 21 and Over, which looks something like The Hangover, but set in college. That's not to diminish the film, which actually looks like a lot of fun, but it's clear that these two aren't venturing too far from their comfort zone.
21 and Over is about two guys (Pitch Perfect's Skylar Astin and Project X's Miles Teller) who show up to take their childhood best friend (Justin Chon) out for his 21st birthday. The catch? Said birthday boy is a straight-A, responsible college student whose overbearing dad wants him to be in tip-top shape for an important interview the next morning.
All sorts of hijinks ensue, and the film's resemblance to Project X, Superbad, and The Hangover cannot be overstated, yet it looks like the trio of leads could help overcome the familiarity to make the film a fun trip to the theater.
21 and Over opens March 1.
