When word first broke about Joss Whedon's surprise black-and-white modern day take on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, I was incredibly excited, and now that the film has successfully played TIFF and gotten picked up for distribution, I'm even more thrilled. Familiar Whedon faces like Amy Acker, Fran Kranz, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, and Clark Gregg are among the cast, with Whedon taking on writing and directing duties.
In Much Ado About Nothing, the villainous Don John (Sean Maher) interferes in the relationships of quarreling Benedick (Denisof) and Beatrice (Acker), and young lovebirds Claudio (Kranz) and Hero (Jillian Morgese).
Lionsgate, whom distributed The Cabin in the Woods, bought the US rights for Much Ado About Nothing, and the film is expected to release sometime next year, though there's no firm release date yet. Perhaps it'll release in Cabin's window in spring? The sooner the better.
In the meantime, take a gander at this beautiful poster.

I can't wait for this. Been a huge Whedon fan since 1997 - Day 1 of Buffy. Looking forward to seeing Acker and Denisof!
ReplyDeleteMy introduction to Whedon's greatness was Dr. Horrible. Now Buffy is my favorite thing ever. This should be a fun Whedonverse reunion.
