Indie darling turned bonafide movie star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to make his writing and directing debut with next year's Don Jon's Addiction, about a porn-addicted asshole who goes on a journey to become less of a porn-addicted asshole. JGL will also be starring in the film, which costars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Brie Larson, and, of all people, Tony Danza. Color me interested.
JGL has had a banner year, with four well-received performances in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Looper, and Lincoln, and one of the many things that makes him such a lovable guy is his graciousness in the face of success. This quality can often be seen in his work with hitRECord, the community-fueled creation website that JGL founded. He takes the show on the road (I was lucky enough to see him when he came to Ohio State earlier this year) and is truly excited about the work that amateur filmmakers around the world are doing, and he's just as enthusiastic to be tackling a more major project from behind the camera.
He's also really jazzed that Don Jon's Addiction is playing at Sundance, a festival where he's met with great success in the past ((500) Days of Summer a few years ago, and a hitRECord event there last year).
The film lacks a release date, though that should surely change after its Sundance premiere. In the meantime, here's the first shot of the film, via its Facebook page.
