It's been a while since the underwhelming first teaser for The Hunger Games premiered, and with the release of the official trailer, my fears about the beloved franchise's transition to the big screen have largely been assuaged. Director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) has tremendous respect for the series, and it shows: it looks like this is going to be an adaptation that is both faithful and exciting to watch, unlike the boringly faithful Deathly Hallows Part I.
The art direction is fantastic, the cast is solid (though I'm still not completely sold on Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson), and it looks like the film will ably balance the spectacular action and more emotional narrative moments.
All said, I can't wait. And I much prefer that feeling to the trepidation that has been plaguing me since the project's inception.
The Hunger Games comes to theaters March 23, 2012.
