Life of Pi is one of my
most anticipated movies of the year. Yann Martel's tale of a boy stuck on a lifeboat with a massive Bengal tiger is a thrilling read, though also one that doesn't seem to lend itself well to the big screen. How it turns out is unsure, but with this first image, it's clear that the film is in good hands. The hands of Oscar-winning director Ang Lee (
Brokeback Mountain), to be exact. There's something fairy tale-esque about the image, fitting considering the thematic complexity and fable-like trappings of the book.
The 3-D film is certainly scoping out prime Oscar real estate, suggesting that we might have reason to be hopeful. Then again, it may be
The Lovely Bones all over again. Look for it in theaters December 21.
