As a huge musical fan (it's probably my favorite film genre), I can't help but be excited for Rock of Ages. A jukebox musical, Rock of Ages makes use of rock hits from the likes of Foreigner and Journey as it weaves a story about a club on the brink of closing and a couple of kids in love who have talent to burn. The all-star cast includes Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Russell Brand. The movie looks like it should be a lot of fun that's more about hyper-romanticized nostalgia for a bygone era than a sturdy, compelling story. Luckily, the musical genre is one of the few where such a formula can still produce a great movie-going experience.
Rock of Ages struts into theaters June 15.
