Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts star in The Impossible, a true story of one family's frightening experience in the 2004 tsunami. The trailer calls to mind Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, which deserved more praise than it received, and also, to a lesser extent, Beasts of the Southern Wild, which also explored a recent natural disaster, albeit in more fantastical terms.
When I first got wind of The Impossible, it didn't strike me as particularly interesting, but this trailer shows promise. It looks like a great vehicle for McGregor, whose talents are often under-utilized in genre fare (The Island) or bland roles (this year's Salmon Fishing in the Yemen). The tsunami is impressively realized, and the emotional roller coaster of the disaster is clearly marked.
Make sure to bring some tissues when The Impossible lands in its prime Oscar slot, December 21.
Great trailer starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

I think this has the potential to be really really good, or really really sappy. We shall see. Either way, thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping it'll for the former, with touches of the latter. I love a good movie-fueled cry.
DeleteHey, I'm right there with you. I can dig that for this flick.
