Derek Cianfrance, whose last movie, Blue Valentine, brutally depicted the highs and lows of a crumbling relationship, is reteaming with his Blue star Ryan Gosling for The Place Beyond the Pines, about a stunt biker who turns to a life of crime when he discovers that he's a father. Gosling is one of the best actors working today, and this performance looks like it's in the same vein as his work in Drive, which is surely welcome. Bradley Cooper plays the cop on Gosling's character's tail, and word from the festivals where Pines played earlier this year is that it's a standout performance from the actor.
Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, and Rose Byrne also costar.
The Place Beyond the Pines opens March 29, 2013.
