Writer-director Jeff Nichols re-teams with his Take Shelter star Michael Shannon for Mud, which played Cannes last year and is set to play Sundance this week. Matthew McConaughey stars at the titular fugitive, who is discovered by two young boys (Dalton Gray and Tye Sheridan) that decide to help him. Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Paulson, and Sam Shepard also star.
The film got mixed reviews out of Cannes, but there is a lot of positive buzz, especially surrounding McConaughey's performance (one critic quoted in the trailer calls it his best performance yet, a sentiment I've seen echoed elsewhere). Coming off of a banner 2012, it looks like the McConaughey train of greatness is going to keep on rolling.
Mud hits theaters April 26.
